Tim Hannen's Racing School at Oakland Valley

At Oakland Valley Race Park, we teach future racers... FAST! New to karting? We will get your adrenaline pumping and will have you returning for more. Be careful, karting is addictive!Do you race cars? Sure, there are a lot of similarities between car and kart racing, but there are some nuances. Karting is a great way to get more seat time at a fraction of the cost of any car racing experience. Or are you looking at getting your kid into racing? Oakland Valley Race Park is centered on youth development through racing.

Tim Hannen is the lead instructor and has 20 years experience in education and competitive sports, including, of course, karting. Tim is an accomplished racer himself and is a master tuner. If you are looking at getting into the sport of go-kart racing, Tim will not only help you drive fast, but will also guide you in your choice of racing equipment, and explain how to make your kart go faster!

Jay de Marcken started running kart racing schools and private events over ten years ago, at Oakland Valley Race Park and in Florida. Jay is a former (and future!) shifter kart racer and specializes in instruction for corporate groups.

Introduction to Racing

This 2 hour introductory course covers safety, flags, the racing line and braking techniques. For this tease to racing, we use our 9 HP, Birel Rock karts. Ideal for private parties, as we offer wheel to wheel racing at the conclusion of the program.

The cost for this program is $225

Half Day Racing School

In this two to three hour program, and depending on their age, students get to drive a Jr Rotax or TAG kart a minimum of 2 sessions, after initial lapping sessions in a Rock Kart to learn the line. 12 to 16 year old teenagers drve a Junior Rotax, all older students drive a TAG or Rotax. (Younger students take this class in a Cadet or Micro Max kart. See kids programs.)

Cost of this introduction to high performance karting: $250

This course takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Times vary, so call ahead to schedule your appointment.

One Day Racing School

In this program, student drivers get to drive a high performance racing go-kart (TAG / Rotax 125). This 6 on-track sessions school is complemented with thorough classroom instruction, enabling students to better understand the racing line and braking techniques, and includes lead-follow one-on-one sessions with an instructor.

Cost for the program is $450.

Two Day Advanced Racing School

The curriculum for the first day is the same as our One Day class. The second day also includes 6 on-track sessions. The first session is a warm-up following a review of techniques learned during Day 1. The next sessions are dedicated to the art of passing, with on-track sessions with an instructor, and finally a session with students allowed wheel to wheel racing.

Cost for the program is $ 850.

2 day schools are run most Thursdays & Fridays.

Three Day Competition Course

The three day program adds a full day of club racing to the two day racing school. If we feel you are ready to go club racing, you will get the chance to enter a club race (Jr Rotax or TAG) with one of our TAG racing karts. On race day, you will get on track with other club racers for multiple sessions of open practice, qualifying, a heat race and a feature race.

Cost for the 3 day competition program is $1,250.

The club race must be run on the weekend the school is taken.

The 3 day competition course's first 2 days are same as 2 day advanced school and take place on Thursdays & Fridays. In the event that the club race is on a Sunday, you may get additional seat time on Saturday (4 sessions for $250)... Yes, this makes it a 4 day racing experience!

Kids Programs

Oakland Valley Race Park is centered on youth development through racing. Tim has 20 years experience teaching children and coaching sports and has adapted the various programs above to best meet the needs of different age groups.

We have programs for 5 to 8 year olds just getting into racing, with parent / child tutoring, as well as advanced classes for young teenagers wanting to pursue a raccing career.

Kids Go Racing

This 1/2 day course for kids 5 to 8 years old, or 8 to 12 years old. The program is for one child, and a parent.

Cost for the program is $250.

The introductory course is just $125, and includes safety procedures, explanation of how the kart works, and on track coaching. Multiple sessions!

Advanced Racing Academy

Tim Hannen, along with guest professional race drivers, will be holding several Advanced Clinics for young racers eager to develop their racing skills. These advanced one-day programs include track time as well as time spent in the shop sharing tuning secrets. Students bring their own racing kart.

Cost is $350 per day.
