Motorcycles and Viper Club this weekend at OVRP

New Jersey Mini Grand Prix riders will be back at Oakland Valley this weekend. Kids ages 5 to 17 get a chance to compete in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and get coaching help from Ryan Fleming (founder of NJ Mini GP) and other adult experienced riders. Hannen Motorsports also has two Honda mini gp bikes for rent. If interested, call or text Tim Hannen at 860-318-1177.

SuperMoto riders are also welcome to race on Sunday (and practice Saturday). Contact Ryan at info@njminigp.com for class information and details.

The Viper Club (CT & NY chapter) will be racing 10 HP go-karts on Sunday morning! Yes, the very guys who drive 500 or 600 HP cars will be experiencing the thrills of kart racing. Come and see their cars, which will be parked ina reserved area of the OVRP paddock!

St Louis, Kid Kart Nationals

Harry Coulton took 2nd place in the new Briggs & Stratton class at the Kid Kart Nationals in St Louis this afternoon, Sunday August 1st. In the unrestricted (Comer 50cc) class, Harry had technical issues in qualifying but made it to the grid of the Final by winning his last chance qualifying race. Harry moved up the pack and took a top 10 finish and fastest lap of the race! Congratulations!

LIKA Island Harvest 1000 Pound Challenge

For immediate release - Long Island, NY - Peter Monte, LIKA president - On Sunday, July 25th the Long Island Karting Association returns to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and is racing to raise food for Island Harvest. Come down to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to make a donation of 20 cans of non-perishable food to Island Harvest and get a free Spectator Pass to watch the races. This is a great local charity and a good opportunity to show people how much fun go kart racing is.

WBAB and WBLI will be on site from 11:00am to 1:00pm with prizes and giveaways. There will also be the first ever 700 horsepower Ice Cream Truck at the event with ice cream bars for the kids while supplies last.

Gates open at 7:30am for track setup with karts on the track around 8:30am.

Gangi Wins Micro Max at Grand Nationals!

Anthony Gangi Jr drove through the pack of front runners in the Final race of the Micro Max class to become 2010's youngest Rotax US National Champion. Congratulations! Anthony was already the 2010 Florida Winter Tour Micro Max champion and has spent this spring and summer between numerous practice sessions at OVRP and travels to races accross the Eastern US and Canada. Vintage Karting

This picture was given to us by David Loudon, who raced at "Noto Raceway" in the early '80s when he was a kid. David was here and watched the LIKA OVRP race on Sunday July 11. David had not been on the track in 25 years and came back on Monday to do an "arrive and drive" program. (We're sure he'll be back!) In this picture, dated circa 1983, David is in the # 92 kart (white helmet). Interestingly, you can also see Phil Pignataro in the #93 kart (black helmet), and Joe Noto (son of then owner Sal Polisi) in the red # 28 (red helmet). All three drivers were about 8 or 9 years old. Phil was here Sunday racing two classes, he finished 3rd in Senior TAG and 2nd in Senior Yamaha!

LIKA OVRP Race # 3

Long Island Karting Association and Oakland Valley clubs held their third and last race of a summer championship this Sunday July 11 at OVRP. We had a great turnout considering many racers were already in Newcastle, IN for the Rotax US Nationals, including OVRP & Hannen Motorsports President Tim Hannen. Race results are posted and pictures will follow later tonight (Monday!)... Thanks to LIKA President Peter Monte and all LIKA officials, and of course all racers who attended this three race series. Trophies will be awarded at LIKA's year end banquet.

Hot Summer Days at Oakland Valley!

It's been a busy and hot (!) week at OVRP. We had a bunch of people doing schools and arrive and drive programs on Monday, and we have more schools and groups booked for later this week. On Tuesday, PJ Jacobsen was instructing young Mini GP riders on the long course. Look for a formal announcement from Tim Hannen and the new Mini GP Riding School at Oakland Valley Race Park soon!

Finally, LIKA and OVRP clubs will hold their 3rd and last summer championship race this Sunday, July 11. The track will be open friday afternoon and evening, as well all day Saturday for open practice. We are also considering non-points race on Saturday night if we have enough racers interested! If you want to race Saturday night, please email Jay at jay@ovrp.com .

Gates open at 8:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Practice starts at 10:00. On Sunday, drivers meeting will be at 12:30 and racing will start at 1:00.

Great Turnout at LIKA OVRP Race #2!

Thanks to all LIKA and OVRP Club members who came and raced on Saturday night (June 19). We had a great turnout with over 75 entries. Both clubs are pleased to see the number of Kid Karts. SuperMotards return to OVRP

The Eastern SuperMoto Racing Association returns to Oakland Valley Race Park for round 5 of their championship on Saturday June 12. Gates will be open Friday morning to welcome racers, who may leave their trailers and RV's in the paddock throughout the weekend. The track will be open Friday for KARTS and BIKES from 10:00 am until dusk. On Saturday, ESMRA will run an open practice from 10:00 to 3:00. Racing will start at 4:00 and  run under the lights! Full event details here. On Sunday, the track is open to karters for practice from 10:00 to 5:00.

Full Motion Racing Sim at OVRP!

Last Thursday, those of you who were at the track got to experience driving the Blue Tiger racing simulator! This full motion sim is awesome, and we drove karts, Star Mazda's at Lime Rock Park (i Racing), as well as Daytona Prototypes at VIR and F1 at Monaco (R-Factor). Would you like to see more sim racing at OVRP?

The Eastern SuperMoto Racing Association will be holding race 4 of its series at Oakland Valley Race Park this Saturday May 22. Gates open at 8:00. The track will be open this week for practice, see details on the site's ESMRA page.

Kids Racing School

Last Saturday May 1, Tim Hannen held a Kids Racing Clinic at Oakland Valley Race Park. About 10 young racers aged 5 to 10 attended, as well as their parents, as Tim Hannen coached the racing line, starts and mock races. Oakland Valley will hold a 3 day Kids Camp the week after the 4th of July weekend.

Club Race # 4 tomorrow, Saturday May 8. Track is closed Sunday.

Rotax Max Challenge Races 1 and 2

Congratulations to Andrew Sherry, Junior Rotax winner of both races on Saturday and Sunday. Driving his Maranello, Andrew, as Tim Hannen said, "put a whooping" on the rest of the field. Pictures are posted, and race results will be available shortly (actually, some are!). Unfortunately, technical issues with our timing system forced us to score some races manually, and we aopologize for the delay in publishing them. Look for a full race report by Tim, to follow...

Make sure to check our SCHEDULE for this weekend! Tim is coaching kids here at the track on Saturday afternoon (after a private event in the morning), and will head down to NJMP on Sunday with a bunch of karts in his trailer, with some exclusive track time scheduled from 9:00 to 11:00!

Rotax Max Regional Series at OVRP!

Oakland Valley Race Park will host races 1 and 2 of the Rotax Max Challenge Northeast Regional Series this weekend, an 11 race championship to take place at OVRP, F1 Outdoors and New Jersey Motorsports Park. Tim Hannen has again worked with series director Dave Davies to hold 4 of these races at New York's premier karting facility.

The weekend kicks off with a day of open practice on Friday (from 11:00 to 7:00), followed by 2 full days of racing. Both Saturday and Sunday will have practice rounds, a qualifying session, a heat race, a pre-final and a final. Gates open at 9:00 on Friday, 8:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Competitors are invited to leave their trailers free of charge for the duration of the event.

By registering online prior to the event, racers save up to $90. The Northeast Series races 1 and 2 will run in conjunction with the New York State Championship, a new Rotax Max Regional Series designed to attract Rotax racers from Northern and Western New York. Drivers will score an extra 10 points in each championship, as per USRMC rules.

This weekend at Oakland Valley

We will kick off the weekend with a 4 hour Kart Endurance Challenge race on Saturday, to be followed by open practice in the afternoon, from approximately 3:00 PM until dusk. On Sunday, the track will be open for practice... This will be your last opportunity to practice before the Rotax Max Regional Series next weekend, April 23 through 25. Don't forget to register online and save!

Endurance Race Saturday April 17th

The first of six New York Kart Endurance Challenge races, a 4 hour enduro, will take place on Saturday April 17th. The gates open at 8:00, practice will start at 10:00, and the race at 11:00. This is the first of several "Arrive and Drive" championships at OVRP this year, using our fleet of Birel N 35 Honda powered go karts. The karts are undergoing a major rebuilding effort, with brand new Honda engines. We procide everything: the karts, fuel, racing gear... Rental Fleet is Ready!

We had a great day on Thursday testing the fleet of rental karts Tim and Peter Hannen have readied for Opening Day. Kid Karts, Micro Max, Junior Rotax, Sr Rotax and other TAG's. They will all be available for rental and coaching on Saturday. We also have some used karts for sale!

Weekend Outlook!

The weather is looking great for Saturday (April 3rd), our opening day at Oakland Valley Race Park. We have Birel karts and 2010 Rotax engines in stock, as well as VP Racing Fuels MS 93 & MS 107, Burris and Motul oil, MoJo tires, and ... the new rear plastic bumpers have arrived! The Cafe may not be open yet, as we are waiting for the permit, but will certainly be open for Club race # 1 next weekend. More about our new food concession soon... But in the meantime, I dare say that Colleen will have some hot dogs and other goodies! And remember, Club membership prices go up after this weekend, so register now if you haven't done so. Purchasing the membership now does give you special benefits, including the option to rent a covered pit box for $375 for the season!

Roofing Job on the Covered Pits at OVRP!

This weekend, Saturday and Sunday March 27 & 28, Tim Hannen and his family/crew worked hard at putting a new roof on the covered pits at Oakland Valley Race Park. Tim's cousin, Michael Weller, was there as the GC for the project.

OVRP is one of few tracks with this comfort feature for drivers and their crew. The pits come with electricity and compressed air and are available for rent at all club and championship races for $20 per day or $35 for the weekend. Seaonal rentals are also available for $450 or $375 for OVRP Club members. Call Peter Hannen at (860) 318-6682 or email him at peter@ovrp.com.

Tim also gave karting lessons to 7 year Owen and 11 year old Olivia, Michael's children. Tim brings his background in education and high school sports coaching, combined with his racing experience, to lead Oakland Valley's Kart Racing School.

Anthony Gangi wins, Neil Verhagen scores his first two top 10's at OGP!

Anthony Gangi, an OVRP regular in 2009, took 3rd place on Saturday and won on Sunday in rounds 5 and 6 of the Florida Winter Tour in Ocala Gran Prix, this Saturday and Sunday March 20 & 21. Neil Verhagen, campaigning under the Hannen Motorsports banner, took 9th place on Saturday and 10th on Sunday in the same Micro Max class. Michael d'Orlando finished 12 th on Sunday. Overall a great performance for these young drivers who all honed their racecraft at Oakland Valley Race Park. We look forward to seeing them at the Rotax Max Challenge Northeast Challenge and New York State Championship.

The Micro Max class is one of the most popular at Oakland Valley's club races, and along with the Kid Kart class, the foundation of karting and motorsports. Tim Hannen's youth development program will focus on racing schools for kids ages 5 to 12. Middletown Motorsposrts Show

Colleen and Peter Hannen were representing Hannen Motorsports and Oakland Valley Race Park at the Middletown Motorports Show on March 19, 20, and 21, 2010.  Several Birel karts were on display, and a winner was picked who received a free arrive and drive session at OVRP. The Birel C 25 Kid Kart was also hugely popular with the younger crowd, and Peter Hannen announced the plans for the Kid Kamp this summer at Oakland Valley!

First Day on Track!

After a lot of work this winter refurbishing the fleet of Rock Karts (the Birel N35/Honda 270cc's), Peter Hannen and Jay de Marcken did some on-track testing for the first time this season! "Peter has done a great job on these karts, and they should be in great shape by the time we run our first four endurance race on April 17", said jay. The karts are undergoing major work, new bearings, new belt drives, new tie rods and front end aligment...  "We are committed to equalizing the karts in order to give all our 'arrive an drive' customers equal chance of winning". The entire fleet will also gradually get new Honda engines, and fresh tires will be mounted before every New York Kart Endurance Challenge Race.

Rotax Classes Rounds 3 & 4, West Palm, February 20 & 21, 2010

Many Oakland Valley Club racers were down in West Palm this past weekend for rounds 3 and 4 of the Florida Winter Tour series. Neil Verhagen in the Micro Max class and Gary Hattersley in the Senior Rotax were part of Tim Hannen's racing partnership with Team Birel America. Other OVRP drivers included Michael d'Orlando and Anthony Gangi in the Micro Max class and Gavin Reichelt in the Mini Max class.
